What “the mountain is out” means

In Seattle, Tacoma and around Puget Sound, Mount Rainier spends a lot of the year hidden behind clouds. When the sky clears and the 14,410-foot peak suddenly fills the horizon, locals say “the mountain is out,” and everyone looks up. (More on the saying.)

We think it’s a good way to live: notice the clear days, get outside, and enjoy the view while it’s there. This collection brings that feeling to a coffee mug, a hat or a hoodie, with an orca nodding to the waters of the Sound. It makes a fitting gift for Washington locals, Rainier hikers, or anyone who misses the Northwest.
